About SMU Purple
Who Are we?
We are a group of students dedicated to driving disability awareness and promoting inclusivity for Persons with Disabilities (PwDs) in SMU. We also collaborates closely with Disability Support Services (DSS).
Why Become An SMU Purple Member?
Our name “SMU Purple” is inspired by the fact that the colour purple has increasingly been associated with disability awareness and inclusion. We believe that efforts to make our campus accessible should extend into both an individual’s academic experience and student life. If you’re also interested in promoting the equality of opportunities for our peers with accessibility needs, join us!
Our Initiatives - What Do We Do?
At SMU Purple, we organise various initiatives in alignment with our vision. This includes engaging with students with accessibility needs, students served by the DSS office, and the SMU student body in general.
Here are some activities we focus on:
- Freshmen activities to educate freshmen on disabilities
- Collaborations with CCAs to make their activities more accessible
- Organisation of the SMU contingent for the annual Purple Parade and activities to promote the event
